Oh my. Devyn and Brandon.

Some couples just feel like they've been friends for years and you have to remind yourself that you've only just met them. In this case however, Devyn and I had the coincidence of having gone to Grand Valley State University at the same time and she and I were in a class together while working towards our very sexy Geography degrees. We didn't realize this however until after Devyn and Brandon booked their wedding reception at the gorgeous Fieldguide Farmhouse  in Antrim County, in proximity to where Devyn grew up as a child in Harbor Springs. Devyn recognized my name on a list of vendors that owner and venue manager Lee showed her, and I got a wonderful email asking if I wanted to be a part in helping this adorable couple celebrate.

The biggest surprise? Devyn and Brandon had made plans to elope with just a small circle of their closest family friends in Rocky Mountain National Park in the beginning of June so their grandparents wouldn't have to travel as far, and then planned a larger reception for the fall at Fieldguide Farmhouse. The excitement was met with a resounding YES, I wanted to be a part of both celebrations and let them know I'd be happy to tag along to the elopement if they should need anything planner-y in the process.

Devyn is a landscape architect working in Detroit and has an amazing skill set for site plan layouts, graphic design, and handlettering as well as overall creativity which she planned to incorporate into their wedding day. The thing I loved about meeting Devyn and Brandon and working with them over a year was how committed they were to doing things their own way, in a way that made sense. They above all else were super focused on having a laid back celebration in Northern Michigan for family and friends, and being married in a place that would be forever memorable to them. They have a goal of visiting all of the National Parks together someday, and thought what better way to kick off their life together than to get married in one.

I was so thankful to be such warmly welcomed into Devyn and Brandon's family and cabin over their week in Estes Park Colorado where we met up with their photographer Hallie Kohler for their elopement. We had a ton of fun and I knew these were my people when Brandon and his best friends ended the evening by bonging Miller Lite and dressing down in their favorite denim cutoff jackets.

When it came time to celebrate in September at Fieldguide Farmhouse, myself, Lee, and Hallie were all so excited that Devyn and Brandon had put so much thought into choosing us to celebrate with them. It felt like one giant hangout and we fell in love with Devyn's talents for DIY floral and the paper goods she designed, the amazing taco buffet spread from Mama Lu's in Traverse City, and of course a super raucous evening of dancing. It was a party for sure and a wonderful way to celebrate fall in Northern Michigan.
